Spiritual Consequences of Lying

Our universe is created in one word (uni-verse).

Through the words you speak, you create universe(s). You create a spell, which is why it’s called “spelling”.

“so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

Isaiah 55:11

When you lie, those words will come back to you.

If you weren’t sick but told your supervisor you were sick, you would get sick.

Even when you lie not out of ill intentions, but out of jokes, you can also acquire negative karma that brings far-reaching consequences.

The spiritual consequences of lying are:

  • Bad smell in the mouth
  • A crooked mouth
  • Loss of reputation
  • Loss of trust
  • Weakened immune system/Having continuous health illnesses
  • Paranoia, depression, autism
  • Loss of sleep, headaches, mental health issues
  • Betrayal
  • Misfortune
  • Lack of respect from others
  • Are constantly criticized by others
  • Words aren’t heard by others
  • Inability to reach enlightenment

A Buddha once requested a monk to prepare for him a bucket so he could wash his feet. After washing his feet, the Buddha asked the monk:

– “Can we use this water for drinking?”

The monk replied:

– “Dear Buddha, this feet-washing water can’t be used for drinking.”

The Buddha said:

– “Liars are like this feet-washing water, which can’t be used for drinking.”

The Buddha then told the monk:

– “Please throw this water away.”

The monk then carried out the task and brought the bucket back. The Buddha asked:

– “Can we use this bucket for storing rice?”

The monk replied:

– “Dear Buddha, this bucket can’t be used for storing rice.”

The Buddha then said:

– “Liars are like this bucket – can’t be used for anything.”

Therefore, truthfulness is the flower of morality. Truthfulness is the law of the universe.

Truth speakers can gain these benefits/merits:

  • Are respected and loved by others
  • Have reasonable and righteous speech
  • The mouth has a good smell like a flower; speech is like a melody
  • Can enjoy pleasure as they wish
  • The karma is clean
  • Inner fulfilment
  • Words are listened to by others; no one criticizes
  • Have superior intelligence
